Just had a interesting mail from the postmaster system at vodacom. Mail from MTN is branded as SPAM.
was considered unsolicited bulk e-mail (UBE).
Our internal reference code for your message is ______________________
The message carried your return address, so it was either a genuine mail from you, or a sender address was faked and your e-mail address abused by third party, in which case we apologize for undesired notification.
We do try to minimize backscatter for more prominent cases of UBE and for infected mail, but for less obvious cases of UBE some balance between losing genuine mail and sending undesired backscatter is sought, and there can be some collateral damage on both sides.
According to a ‘Received:’ trace, the message originated at: [41.208.xx.xxx],
41-208-xx-xxx.mtn.co.za ([41.208.xx.xxx] helo=”xxxxx)
Colateral Damage se Mxxxxxxx!
I wonder though having had a couple of problems with corporate email and gmail, if SA techies will every wakeup to the new standards of email. Since the amount of backsactter is hideous and the amount of legit mail sent through poorly configure smtp servers causing spam faults due to apparent forged mail addresses are just as hideous.
Joke is people pay for that kind of service.
